Welcome to our Cigar Ratings section! In recent years, we've noticed that publications like Cigar Aficionado have focussed their attention more on 'hard-to-get', small batch, and/or limited edition smokes.

Now, there is no doubt that many of these cigars are fantastic and definitely deserve the attention they receive. However, the purpose of our ratings will be to provide mainstream cigar recommendations that most of us can manage to lay our hands on without too much difficulty.

We'll make it a point to review cigars at different price levels. There's plenty of great smokes that cost $20 or more, but our goal also will be to identify decent cigars under $10 a stick.

Punch London Club Maduro

Origin: Honduras
Size: 5" x 40
Wrapper: Ecuadoran Sumatra
Binder: Connecticut Broadleaf
Filler: Honduran, Nicaraguan, Dominican (Piloto Cubano)
Price: $6-8

The wrapper on this petit corona has a dry, almost matte-like appearance. The draw is perfect & the construction superb, with an even burn the entire way. It was medium-bodied in strength and the smoke had almost a light, sweet taste. A decent, reliable little cigar. Very enjoyable. Score: 89 points

Sancho Panza Belicoso

Origin: Cuba
Size: 5 1/2" x 52
Wrapper: Cuba
Binder: Cuba
Filler: Cuba
Price: $21-25

An attractive pyramid with a flawless wrapper, though dry in appearance with no trace of oil. The draw was easy, perhaps even just a tad loose. However, the construction was excellent and the cigar was not under-filled whatsoever. It burned evenly until the last third when it started to canoe just a bit. This Belicoso was quite a full-bodied, complex cigar. Hints of coffee and cocoa were noted, but the finish fell a bit flat. The aroma was sublime. All in all, a fine cigar, just a little underwhelming for the price. Score: 88 points
